Rise of Kingdoms: Pyrrhus Talent Tree Build and Guide Update 2025

Pyrrhus History:

Pyrrhus (319/318 – 272 BC) was king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Epirus, a brilliant military strategist and one of the main rivals of early Rome for dominance over the Italian peninsula. He was born into the Hellenistic world following the conquest and death of Alexander the Great, a time when Greece was the center of the Western world and new city-states were flourishing. However, looming over them was the threat of the young Roman Republic. Pyrrhus transformed his small kingdom into a formidable power through military development and expansion abroad.

Pyrrhus had a troubled early life. His father was overthrown when he was a child, but he was able to return home and regain his throne with the help of an Illyrian king, although he was later dethroned again. With the outbreak of the Fourth War of the Diadochi, the 18-year-old Pyrrhus proved acquitted at the Battle of Ipsus, but was nonetheless defeated and captured. With the support of Ptolemy I Soter, the ruler of Egypt (and his captor), Pyrrhus recaptured Epius and later much of Macedonia.

Pyrrhus is best known for his war against the Romans, battling them for control of southern Italy with an army that even included elephants. At the Battle of Ausculum, Pyrrhus won a very costly victory over the Romans, giving rise to the phrase “Pyrrhic Victory” (a victory that costs the victor dearly). Pyrrhus’ military acumen was undoubtedly remarkable, and he was considered by his contemporaries to be one of the greatest strategists of his time. However, his efforts did not prevent the eventual fate of ancient Greece, which would eventually be invaded and conquered by Rome.
