Are you planning to run or already running Atheus in Call of Dragons in one of your legions, and want to see how you should invest talent points, which artifacts work best, and which other heroes you should pair him with? Well, you've come to the right place. Below you will find answers to each of those questions, helping you make your Atheus perform as strong as possible in every situation.
Best Troop Type for Atheus
Flying units and Magic units are key for him. If you haven't maxed him out yet and aren't running him alongside Theia, you can simply bring regular Magic units since the additional healing won't matter as much. However, ultimately, you'll want to run him with flying magic units – which means the League of Order needs to be your faction to run him at his full potential.

Best Hero Pairings for Atheus
Theia is obviously the ideal hero to pair with Atheus, which makes the most sense since both are flying units. This allows you to run them with any faction and benefit from their skills. I prefer running Atheus as the primary commander in a Magic legion with the Mobility tree for rage buildup, with Theia as the secondary commander providing shields and applying buffs for her.
Liliya is also a fantastic pairing, and you'll want to use Liliya as primary to leverage her skill tree for maximum rage generation. Combined with extra rage from Atheus's 2nd skill, you can continuously spam their active skills, dealing massive damage alongside great mage synergy.
Velyn works similarly to Liliya, but you can utilize the Control tree with Velyn as primary to lock down targets and silence them, all while benefiting from excellent synergy with Magic units.
Waldyr is another setup I really like because he acts essentially as an epic version of Velyn and works exceptionally well with Atheus.
Alwyn is also a viable option. Atheus can effectively serve as a secondary commander for virtually any meta mage hero in Call of Dragons.

Best Talent Tree Builds for Atheus
Let’s start with the Mobility build, which I personally enjoy because your high march speed allows you to aggressively chase down enemy legions in the open field. After unlocking the core node, head into the Mobility tree and work your way toward Prior Preparedness. The way this works is whenever your target runs away, you gain a huge boost to attack power. Next, pick up additional march speed talents on your way to Victory Rush. Victory Rush is fantastic for finishing off any legions trying to disengage from you, as it deals extra damage to them. Afterwards, spend your remaining points in the Magic tree to boost your legion's base stats and pick up Energy Boost so your active skill can hit multiple targets, which is extremely useful.
This alternative talent tree offers lower march speed but delivers massive power, especially for Magic units. Grab base stats in the Magic tree and head toward Energy Boost to gain extra rage, damage, and multi-target capability. Next, path toward Elemental Boost, making sure to field strictly Magic units and gathering the talents along the path shown in my image. You now have extra rage generation and damage output. Final points should be spent in the Mobility tree to at least get a slight boost to march speed while in the open field.
