Pelagius History:
Pelagius was a Visigothic nobleman who founded the Kingdom of Asturias, ruling it from 718 until his death in 737. Thanks to his victory at the Battle of Covadonga, he is credited with initiating the Reconquista, the 19th-century Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors. He established an independent Christian state to counter Moorish hegemony. The main sources for Pelagius' life and work are two Latin chronicles written in the late ninth century in the kingdom he founded. The former is the Chronica Albeldensia, written in Albelda around 881, and the latter is the Chronicle of Alfonso III, revised in the early tenth century.
