Best Troop Types for Nico
With all his talents and 3rd skill, I strongly recommend running Nico exclusively with Marksman units to achieve maximum effectiveness. Additionally, since Marksman units have a shorter attack range (compared to Magic units), they often draw attacks early and inflict active counterattack damage.

Best Hero Pairings for Nico
Kinnara is undoubtedly the absolute best pairing alongside Nico. You will dish out an incredible amount of damage, and with Nico as the primary hero, you can break DEF with his active skill, allowing Kinnara to hit significantly harder. Alternatively, you can consider running Kinnara as primary to activate the Control tree, but you will want Nico’s expertise because taking Ambush in the Control tree gives you a near-constant chance to break DEF, dealing an extra 200 damage through Nico.
Hosk works amazingly well (though realistically, you can pair him with almost any hero in Call of Dragons). He is mainly aimed at heavy spenders in the early stages of the game since he can only be obtained via the Honor Membership Store at VIP 10+. He performs exceptionally well as he boosts virtually everything Nico does, though as mentioned, he requires a steep investment, including maxing his 3rd and 4th skills. In an ideal world, Hosk is arguably the single best partner for Nico.
Theia is a viable option, BUT ONLY if you are playing the Wilderburg faction to utilize flying marksmen that trigger Theia’s 3rd skill. If you are NOT playing that faction, do not consider pairing Theia with Nico!
Ffraegar works well and shares strong synergy with Nico, but there is one drawback: attack ranges. Nico forces Ffraegar’s long-range capability down to medium range, which isn't ideal for her maximum potential. Aside from that clash in range mechanics, their kits still synergize quite nicely.
Gwanwyn makes a solid early-game duo since she is easy to level up, benefits from Marksman synergy, and meshes smoothly with Nico. As you invest more into Nico, you’ll definitely want to set him as the primary hero. Given her extra damage against Darklings and Dark Legions, this setup functions best during the early game phase.
Kregg is another great F2P pair for Nico, offering both Marksman synergy and area-of-effect (AoE) damage. You miss out on flying unit synergies unless you're playing Wilderburg, but if you are, Kregg easily beats Gwanwyn anytime.
