There are two ways to look at this: if you take Tohar onto the open field, you will naturally want to run Magic units. However, if you use him as a garrison commander, his kit is designed to work effectively with all troop types.
Best Hero Pairings for Tohar
Bertrand is the clear best pairing for Tohar, as new hero kits are designed to complement each other seamlessly. Tohar helps Bertrand stack his marks for explosive damage, creating incredible synergy—Tohar's continuous damage continuously generates marks while Bertrand triggers massive burst damage. Whether on the open field or in strongholds, this duo destroys everything in their path and is completely worth building together.
Liliya can work with him, but with a few caveats: they are not ideal for garrison defense, and on the open field, you miss out on potential by not running Bertrand, as single-target damage differences make Liliya perform better alongside heroes like Velyn.
