Joan of Arc History:

Joan of Arc, considered a French heroine for her role in the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years' War and canonized as a Roman Catholic saint. On 23 May 1430, she was arrested at Compiegne and subsequently put on trial. After Bishop Pierre Cauchon declared her guilty, she was burned at the stake on 30 May 1431, dying at the age of nineteen. In 1456, a court of inquiry reviewed the trial, cleared her of the charges, declared her innocent, and declared her a martyr. In the 16th century, she became the symbol of the Catholic League, and in 1803, she was declared a national symbol of France by decree of Napoleon Bonaparte.
